Jean-Paul Floch, who is self-taught and has followed a very unusual career, sculpts the human body with a living knowledge of its secrets.

Born on 20th October 1949 in Guer, in Brittany, he learnt to create things from early childhood in the wooden toy workshop belonging to his parents.

Fascinated by the magical side of the country healer, he started studying physiotherapy and at the same time he tried out woodcarving. Two professional sculptors encouraged him to take it up as his career. One of these was a retired Corsican, former teacher of fine-arts and 1st prize of Rome, who came to settle in the countryside close to his home when he was a student in 1976.

Very receptive to the delight of sound, he played the bass guitar in a band, like a lot of young people did at that time.

Very sensitive to the magic of the subtle and invisible processes of healing as well as the energy released from sculpted shapes by Michael Angelo and Canova, he chose to further his study of the mystery of the human being in its living form, to understand how its vital force emanates from the invisible and to be able to convey this in bronze.  He then became a physiotherapist, leaving sculpture aside for 25 years.

All through his medical career, through observation and work, he created his own treatment techniques by referring to the ancestral knowledge of medicines originating in Asia.

Fascinated by the strength of the fluctuating emotions concealed in the human body, he continued to learn more.He discovered how the physical body that one can see is in harmony with the anatomy of the underlying organs, muscles, bones and tendons that cannot be seen, but which can be felt by his hands. He then realized that this harmony follows specific laws and phenomena.
