Mona Lisa and Leonardo da Vinci were to enjoy a form of mutual recognition in the purity of their gazes during his model’s long hours of posing for her painter. But how did he manage to convey their etherial union through painting alone?


Lisa Gherardini, a young mother about thirty years younger than Leonardo da Vinci, discovers a form of love without ego, beyond the realms of sexuality. The kind of love that only knows how to give : that of a mother for her child. Perhaps she recognized in the penetrating gaze of the painter, the respect and depth of another kind of love; that in which young maturity has still made fragile through the search for a balance between the mystical and human, a love beyond the notion of time.


Leonardo da Vinci had succeeded in giving shape to their ethereal union by melting the expression of each of their faces into one portrait. The gaze of Mona Lisa seems to come out of the painting and to penetrate the depths of everyone’s hearts, occulting our egos that serve the senses.


The smile irradiates with the experience of an inner fusion, beyond the rules and laws of this physical world.
